Iowa Hawkeyes guard Dasonte Bowen has entered the NCAA transfer portal according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.

Bowen enters the portal following two seasons with the Hawkeyes, playing in 26 games with one start in his freshman season and 25 games with eight starts this past season.

In his true freshman year, Bowen averaged 3.1 points and 1.0 assists per game primarily off of the bench, highlighted by a season-high 12 points versus No.15 ranked Duke in Madison Square Garden in the Jimmy V Classic. Which was followed by his first career start versus Wisconsin two games later.

Last season he started the first eight games of the season before being bumped out of the starting lineup, averaging 4.4 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 rebounds in his 13.5 minutes per game. Scoring in double figures four times with a career-high 17 points against Arkansas State in November.

Bowen played high school basketball at Brewster Academy in Worcester (MA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 155 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Bowen has not appeared in a game for the Hawkeyes since Valentine’s Day, suffering a knee injury that head coach Fran McCaffery said he’s been playing through and will likely require surgery.

“Dasonte, he’s injured, so that’s why he hasn’t been playing,” McCaffery said. “He hurt his knee. He’s going to be having surgery coming up here. So, we’re all pulling for him as he’s going through that difficulty. He’s a terrific young man. It’s been lingering. He’s a tough kid. He’s been trying to play through it. It just got to a point where it was time.”

It appears like Bowen’s time overall in Iowa City has come to an end, as he’ll reopen his recruitment with two seasons of eligibility remaining after receiving offers from programs like Miami, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Georgetown as a high school prospect.

The Hawkeyes missed out on the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018 this season, but the postseason hasn’t ended just yet for Iowa. Defeating Kansas State 91-82 in the NIT on Tuesday at home and advancing to the second round where they’ll face Utah.
