Lisa Bluder and Iowa led 68-47 going into the fourth quarter against Colorado in the Sweet 16. Just because the Hawkeyes led by 21 doesn’t mean they wanted to rest on their laurels.

Bluder explained Iowa had to make some adjustments based on the Colorado zone. Once they did so, Iowa started running away with the game.

The assists, led by Caitlin Clark, got the offense in the right groove according to Bluder.

“It took us a little bit to adjust and I don’t want us to take hard ones a this point,” Bluder said to ESPN’s Holly Rowe. “I want us to work the ball against the zone to get that high percentage shot. But I thought some of our passing to begin this quarter was amazing.”

Clark had 12 assists to go along with 25 points through three quarters.

“It’s just amazing. I mean, how she finds people in transition,” Bluder said. “She’s just unbelievable.”

How does Iowa hang on for the win? Well, it’s pretty simple according to Bluder.

“With possessions,” Bluder said. “Patience on possessions, we want to use the clock to our advantage, box out every opportunity we can.”

Clark explained Iowa’s slightly different approach before going to the halftime locker room with 15 points, three rebounds and eight assists.

“I think that’s the key to the game,” Clark said to Rowe. “When we have multiple people in double figures we’re really good. I thought our ball screen offense was really good, being able to work that. They’re flooding so being able to hit it on the roll but, I thought we got out in transition. I think our defense needs to be a little better in transition.”

Clark also had two fouls in the first half and despite the trouble, Bluder left her star guard in the game.

“I think it’s trust,” Clark said. “I think it’s just you know, being her point guard for four years she can trust me with that and obviously they made some good steps to get me out on defense and not give up fouls … So I think it’s gonna be key down the stretch. You’ve got to keep your arms out and not foul.”
