Los Angeles Chaminade three-star interior offensive lineman David Abajian has committed to Kansas.

He chose the Jayhawks following his decommitment from Oregon State on Sept. 27. He also held offers from the likes of California, Nebraska and Washington State.

Abajian is the No. 69 interior offensive lineman and No. 59 player in California in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s the No. 836 recruit overall.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder took an official visit to Lawrence in June. Offensive line coach Scott Fuchs helped lead Kansas’ recruitment.

Abajian does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Kansas adds to top-five Big 12 recruiting class

The addition of Abajian makes 16 total commitments for Lance Leipold and Co. The class checks in inside the top 45 of the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking.

Headlining the pledge list is Goodyear (Ariz.) Desert Edge four-star EDGE Deshawn Warner, the No. 214 overall prospect and No. 18 EDGE in the cycle. Warner chose the Jayhawks over Texas, Washington and Oregon State and has since picked up an offer from Ohio State. Leipold was one of the main reasons that KU got over the hump for the blue-chipper.

“It was great talking to him, great connecting with him,” Warner said of Leipold ahead of his commitment. “He’s very hands-on and active in what everybody has going on. Of course he holds himself to higher standards than everybody else, but you could tell that he’s not the guy that just tells people what to do. He’s got a mentality of getting the job done himself… You can tell he genuinely cares about the people that he’s around.”

Other top commitments in the class include Katy (Texas) four-star EDGE Dakyus Brinkley, Hazel Crest (Ill.) Marian Catholic three-star cornerback Austin Alexander and Houston Clear Lake three-star safety Damani Maxson.

Abajian is the fourth offensive lineman to commit to Kansas this cycle. He joins Scottsdale (Ariz.) Horizon three-star offensive tackle Carter Lavrusky, Norman (Okla.) North three-star IOL Harrison Utley and Minneapolis East Ridge three-star OT Kene Anene in the trenches.

Kansas’ class is No. 4 in the Big 12 and behind only Texas Tech, UCF and TCU. The Jayhawks remain ahead of the likes of Cincinnati, Utah, Arizona and West Virginia.
