Christian Braun had an impressive three-year career with the Kansas Jayhawks, and now he is preparing for the 2022 NBA Draft. But as he looks back on his collegiate career, Braun believes that he should have one more national title under his belt.

Kansas won the national championship this past season, defeating North Carolina in the title game. But the Jayhawks were robbed of potentially going on another title-winning run during the 2019-2020 season, Braun’s freshman season.

That year, Kansas was 28-3 overall and 17-1 against Big 12 opponents before the rest of the season was called off due to COVID-19. When looking back at that year, Braun truly believes that Kansas was going to go on to win the title.

“I’ve been thinking and I really should be a 2x national champion,” Braun tweeted.

As a freshman during that impressive 2019-2020 season, Braun played in 31 games with five starts, averaging 18.4 minutes per game and 5.3 points. He then started all 30 games the next season, scoring 9.7 points in 31.2 minutes per game. This past season, Braun averaged 14.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 40 games, averaging 34.4 minutes.

In his collegiate career, Braun was a 44.9% shooter, including a 37.8% clip from three-point range.

Braun is departing Kansas to begin his NBA career

After winning the national title with Kansas this past season, Braun announced that he was entering the draft. And then after exploring where his stock stood in this year’s class, Braun then decided to stay in the draft instead of returning for another year of college.

“Just a kid from Kansas,” Braun wrote. “That’s where I started this journey. Now, 3 years later I’m a national champion. None of that would be possible though, without the best teammates, coaches, and fans in the world. To say I love Kansas would be an understatement. This place is beyond special. No matter where life or basketball takes me, I will be a Jayhawk forever and represent this program to the best of my abilities.

“With that being said, after talking with my coaches and family, I would like to declare for the 2022 NBA Draft. Thank you for your support every time we stepped on the court representing this amazing basketball program.”

Braun is a possible first round pick in this year’s draft. In a recent mock draft from ESPN, the Golden State Warriors selected Braun with the No. 28 overall pick in the first round.
