Not too much is going right for Kansas against Houston, having a tough time breaking down the top team in college basketball. Head coach Bill Self might just be attempting to get out completely healthy. But now, there is concern regarding Hunter Dickinson after fighting for a rebound in the second half.

Dickinson secured a board but you could tell he instantly felt pain in his shoulder. After a whistle was blown, he jogged down to the Kansas bench and was leaning on a trainer. Eventually, Dickinson was seen going back to the locker room, holding his right shoulder.

It’s not what Kansas wants to see, especially with how thin the rotation has been this season. While there is still time to return to the lineup, ESPN‘s Boog Sciambi predicted Self will keep Dickinson on the bench for the remainder of the game due to the scoreline, no matter his health status.

Dickinson leaves the game as one of the lone bright spots for Kansas on Saturday. He has a team-high 11 points, shooting 50% from the field. Five rebounds and four assists are on the stat line as well, keeping up with his consistent performances during Big 12 play.

Overall, a double-double average is what we have come to expect of Dickinson in a Kansas uniform. Going into the Kansas game, he averaged 18.2 points and 11.0 rebounds.

While Self will have questions to answer about Saturday’s performance, plenty will be wondering about the health of Dickinson during his postgame press conference.

Kansas heading into postseason with health questions

Unfortunately for Kansas, the Dickinson injury adds to the report. He will not be the only player with questions heading into the postseason. Health has been an issue for the Jayhawks all season and adding another name does not help.

Kevin McCullar, who did suit up and get minutes in the first half, has been missing games as well. Self has been careful about bringing him back. But due to how the Houston game is currently playing out, we may not see much more of McCullar on Saturday.

Results around the conference are still needed before figuring out where Kansas will be slotted in the Big 12 Tournament. The hope will be that the Jayhawks can get as much rest as possible, giving Dickinson and McCullar the chance to play in what should be a tough, grind it out tournament.
