The Kansas Jayhawks are one of the hottest teams in college football this season and they survived a late scare last weekend against the Iowa State Cyclones, pulling out a 14-11 win to move to 5-0 on the 2022 campaign. That’s as many wins as the Jayhawks have produced in the last three seasons combined. It’s been a historically good start for Kansas and their fans have been taking notice. Not surprisingly, this weekend’s game against the TCU Horned Frogs is officially a sellout–the third straight sellout of the season for the KU football program.

Check it out.

It’s good that Kansas fans are fired up, because ESPN College GameDay will also be in town for the event for the very first time. Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, and company will be in Lawrence for this weekend’s Big 12 showdown between two undefeated teams.

Simply put, it’s been one of the best starts for Kansas football since former Jayhawk great Todd Reesing suited up for the program. Quarterback Jalon Daniels has a 95.6 QBR through five games this year, the best mark among all Kansas quarterbacks through five games. That mark is currently the best in the nation. This week, the Jayhawks find themselves ranked for the first time in the AP poll since 2009–they currently sit at 19th in this week’s poll.

The Iowa State defense limited Jalon Daniels to his worst game of the 2022 season last weekend. He completed 7 of 14 pass attempts for 93 yards through the air. On the ground, he had eight carries for nine rushing yards and a touchdown in the low scoring affair. Daniels has been playing spectacular football for much of the 2022 campaign and he recently made On3’s J.D. PicKell’s Heisman Power Rankings for Week 6. The dynamic dual threat checked in as PicKell’s D.H. on the list, which would technically rank him fifth.

This season, Daniels has strapped the Jayhawks on his back, completing 68.2 percent of his passes while throwing for 983 yards through the air. He’s also tossed 11 touchdown passes and just one interception. On the ground, he’s shredded opposing defenses for 329 yards on 46 attempts, while rushing for five touchdowns. They’ll need him to step up big again this weekend, as Kansas welcomes a TCU team that just steamrolled Oklahoma last weekend, 55-24.

Kansas and TCU will square off on Saturday, Oct. 8. Kickoff time is set for noon EST. The game will be nationally televised on FS1.
