Sioux Center (Iowa) three-star tight end Carson Bruhn announced his commitment to Kansas on Thursday. He chose the Jayhawks over Kansas State and Minnesota.

Bruhn is the No. 874 overall prospect and No. 41 tight end in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 9 player in Iowa.

“They use more 12 personnel and I’ve really connected with coaches from both,” Bruhn told Drew Galloway of K-State Online on March 10. “Plus… KU was my first Power Five offer.”

The 6-foot-6, 235-pound recruit is now the fourth player in Kansas’ 2024 recruiting class. Southfield (Mich.) three-star quarterback Isaiah Marshall, Beggs (Okla.) three-star running back Red Martel and Goodyear (Ariz.) Desert Edge three-star cornerback Aundre Gibson are the others.

Following Bruhn’s commitment, the Jayhawks’ class ranks No. 42 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 6 in the Big 12. All four of Kansas’ pledges are ranked in the top-1,000 of the On3 Industry Ranking.

Gibson was the Jayhawks’ most recent pledge before Bruhn, announcing his commitment to the program on March 5. Defensive backs coach Jordan Peterson played a key role in his decision.

“He has all the energy,” Gibson told On3 on Feb. 27. “He reminds me of being here at Desert Edge, the coaches. He gives me the same perspective as my DB coach, the same energy, the same love for the game, the same passion. That really stood out to me.”

Bruhn has an On3 NIL Valuation of $15.9K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Kansas is looking to improve on the recruiting trail this cycle

Last year, Kansas had a massive start to the season by going 5-0. Even though the Jayhawks finished 6-7, head coach Lance Leipold helped Kansas take a big step during his second season in Lawrence.

The Jayhawks also found some success on the recruiting trail, landing 15 commitments. Kansas’ 2023 recruiting class finished No. 71 in the 2023 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 14 in the Big 12.

Eudora (Kan.) three-star tight end Jaden Hamm was the Jayhawks’ highest-ranked commit last cycle as the No. 543 overall prospect in the 2023 On3 Industry Ranking. He was also one of six Jayhawks pledges rated in the top-1,000 of the ranking.
