It was a scary scene in Lawrence on Saturday when Kansas running back Daniel Hishaw suffered an apparent leg injury in the fourth quarter. He was carted off the field and left in an ambulance as a result.

Hishaw took a carry nine yards before fumbling the ball. But on the play, he took a big hit and ended up leaving the game on the cart due to the injury. At the time of the injury, Hishaw had 28 rushing yards and one of Kansas’ two touchdowns.

The cart came on the field after the play and eventually had to leave via an ambulance, according to 247Sports’ Michael Swain.

Hishaw fumbled on the play and Iowa State defender O’Rien Vance came up with the takeaway to give the Cyclones the ball back as they try to mount a comeback. However, they ended up punting back to Kansas with 5:21 to play.

Kansas is trying to continue its remarkable start to the season, opening 2022 with a 4-0 record. The Jayhawks fell just short of the AP Top 25 this week, but are trying to get over the hump and back into the poll.

Lance Leipold breaks down Kansas’ first half vs Iowa State

The magic was still alive and well in Lawrence as Kansas took a lead over Iowa State into halftime. But it wasn’t perfect, according to Jayhawks coach Lance Leipold.

After a quiet first quarter, Kansas erupted for 14 points in the second to take a 14-8 lead into the break. Jalon Daniels is putting together a solid day, going 5-for-10 for 75 yards in the air and also contributing a rushing touchdown on the ground.

Leipold seemed impressed, but noted his team still has some things to work on in the second half.

“I think we played pretty well defensively except for the drive there where they hit the deep post,” Leipold told ESPN’s Lauren Sisler. “Played hard, executing. We probably could’ve executed that two-minute a little bit better. But love the way we’re playing. We’re playing hard, but they’re a good football team.”
