Cason Wallace was the No. 1 combo guard in On3’s 2022 Consensus Top Basketball Recruits. The five star product from Richardson, Texas will take his talents to Lexington and play for John Calipari. With the history the Wildcat head coach has with top back court talent, Wallace is expected to be the next great guard to come out of Kentucky.

His ability as a combo guard on both ends makes him versatile on the floor. During one of UK’s recent pro camps, Wallace said it’s that along with his winning mentality that makes him a full package.

“I feel like I do everything pretty well,” said Wallace. “I play on both ends of the court. I’m a winner so that’s what they’re going to get.”

Wallace has picked up the reputation as the best defender in the 2022 class. His frame at 6’3 and 175 pounds gives him a muscular build to compete with guards on the wings. His competitive nature and a pair of quick hands make him relentless for the length of the court. While other players focus only on their offensive game, Wallace says his defensive intensity is what sets him apart from the rest.

“I know that everybody doesn’t play defense. If that’s what sets me apart from everybody, that’s what I’m willing to do,” he said. “It wins. It helps us win. I’m going to do anything to help us (do that).”

Kentucky could benefit from a player with the demeanor that Wallace has. His warrior mentality will help a Kentucky team that has expectations they need to meet this upcoming season. For Wallace, he says he’s ready and able to give it all in order to help his team meet them.

“I can always do more. That’s the mindset that I have. If you want me to play more defense, I’ll play more defense. I’ll play harder. I’m gonna do whatever we need to do to win.”
