As if Kentucky fans needed any more reason for excitement ahead of their 2022 football season. But alas, the official team account released a thrilling yet chilling hype video ahead of Saturday’s season-opener at home vs. Miami (OH). The video features clips from last year’s teams and some of the best moments throughout coach Mark Stoops’ tenure.

Don’t waste anymore time reading, just watch the hype video. And try not to punch a hole in your wall out of excitement afterward.

Recap

What an awesome video. The first clip comes from Kentucky’s 2013 game vs. South Carolina. Really, the moment Mark Stoops arrived in Lexington. It shows Bud Dupree scampering into the end zone with the game-sealing pick-six after he had blown up the pass. A legendary play in the hearts of Kentucky fans. Followed by the team dancing to Waka Flocka Flame’s “Grove Street Party” during the ensuing kickoff — a tradition that has since become a weekly tradition at Kroger Field. Every ‘Cats fan ought to have chills remembering that moment.

We also see former kicker Austin MacGinnis hoisted up by teammates after nailing a 50+ yarder at the horn to beat Mississippi State in 2016 — a win that kept Mark Stoops his job.

Then Stephen Johnson’s diving touchdown against Tennessee in 2017, just minutes after running out of the tunnel after going to the locker room for a shoulder injury. And he landed on that exact shoulder in the end zone. What a tough, tough man.

A few other moments are shown, then some narration kicks in over shots of former coach Bear Bryant and former players Jared Lorenzen and Chris Oats, whose story Kentucky fans know well. Of course, Lorenzen and Oats both wore No. 22 at Kentucky (hence the 2022 connection). Meanwhile Bryant’s wins record is about to be broken by Mark Stoops this season.

So a hype video that will get you out of your chair, but is also rich in Kentucky football history from past and recent. Awesome stuff from the video crew in Lexington.
