Tre Mitchell will not play against LSU, Kentucky announced shortly before tip-off.

Mitchell has been dealing with a shoulder injury since Kentucky‘s Feb. 13 win over Ole Miss. He left that game with a shoulder injury and was deemed questionable to return.

He did not return during the contest after heading to the locker room with the injury early in the second half against the Rebels on Feb. 13. He collided with Rebels center Moussa Cisse and hit his left shoulder on the play, and his return was questionable, according to the ESPN broadcast.

Despite his injuries, Mitchell entered the matchup against Ole Miss averaging 12.3 points per game along with a team-leading 7.6 rebounds on average. At the time of his departure, Mitchell had five points and six rebounds.

The veteran forward has played in just two games during February for the Wildcats, as he had just returned to the lineup from nursing a previous injury that kept him out of games a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Kentucky will have to move forward with their road matchup against the Tigers on Wednesday night. While they will miss Mitchell’s leadership and ability to space the floor, the Wildcats seem to be hitting their side toward the back half of February.

Every game is a must-win for Kentucky at this point in the season, who are still chasing a bye into the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament.

Odds for Kentucky vs. LSU

FanDuel line: Kentucky -6.5 points
FanDuel over/under: 162.5 points

The sports books are pretty bullish on the ‘Cats, who FanDuel pegs as a sizeable 6.5-point favorite at LSU, which is a bit higher than the analytical models expect (and you can read about those below). Meanwhile, the over/under is still pretty lofty at 162, and that’s typical for this Kentucky team, although UK scored under 80 in their last two games.

Well, all signs point to a close Kentucky victory on the road, at least per the sports books and various analytics. But we all know how well a bettor can do riding home underdogs in college hoops. Either way, the Pete Maravich Center should have a real treat this evening.
