LOOK: Will Levis appears to suffer dislocated middle finger following safety against Ole Miss
No. 7 Kentucky has its hands full on the road at No. 14 Ole Miss on Saturday, and quarterback Will Levis now has his hand taped up. Levis appeared to dislocate his middle finger while tacking a hit in the end zone that was ruled a safety for intentional grounding.
ESPN cameras caught Levis’ middle finger on his left hand (non-throwing) bent way out of place as he came off the field following the safety.
“Yeah, you saw his finger was completely bent sideways,” sideline reporter Molly McGrath said. “Athletic training staff popped it back into place and taped his two fingers together. He practiced taking snaps from center with his fingers taped and seemingly had no issues with that.”
Levis was chatting with teammates on the sideline following the brief attention from the medical staff, seemingly unfazed by the injury.
“Well there’s two good news for him,” broadcaster Sean McDonough said. “No. 1, it’s not his throwing hand. No. 2, they’re in the shotgun more than under center, so that’s a little less pressure on the left hand.”
Ole Miss led Kentucky 19-6 with 7:03 to play in the first half at the original time of this publication.
Will Levis dislocated finger not his only issue
Unfortunately for Kentucky, Will Levis’ dislocated finger doesn’t seem to be the only issue he’s dealing with.
It’s unclear if he was further dinged up on the safety, when Ole Miss defensive lineman Tayvius Robinson beat Kentucky left tackle Kenneth Horsey to the interior to make the hit on Levis, but the veteran UK gunslinger is now dealing with multiple ailments, according to the ESPN broadcast crew.
“Sean, in addition to a left middle finger injury, quarterback Will Levis is dealing with a left ankle or foot injury,” McGrath reported midway through the second quarter. “Stretching and testing the mobility of his ankle and foot, jogging back and forth on the sideline in visible discomfort. He even stumbled in pain once and had athletic training staff tape his ankle and foot before taking the field.”
Levis did return to action on the drive following Ole Miss’ 53-yard field goal that extended the lead to 19-6.
He led a nine-play, 70-yard scoring drive capped by a 5-yard touchdown pass to Tayvion Robinson to cut Ole Miss’ lead to 19-12 with 1:23 left to play in the first half.
