Deion Branch provided some interesting perspective on Louisville‘s Fenway Bowl victory over Cincinnati, and the Cardinals transitioning from the Scott Satterfield era to one led by former Purdue leader Jeff Brohm.

Speaking with the media afterwards, the Cardinals interim head coach discussed how while he love and appreciates everything Satterfield did for the program, the game was all about closing the chapter on his time.

“I think it was just all about closing a chapter,” stated Branch. “Closing the Coach Satterfield chapter, and which I love and appreciate Coach Satterfield for giving me the opportunity to come in and to help mentally motivate these young men, but it was just all about closing the Coach Satterfield chapter, and starting the Coach Brohm chapter. I asked those guys to just go out and give me your all, because this is, you’re going to get one opportunity, and it’s all about what you do with that one opportunity that you get. You get what I’m saying? And that’s life. That’s everybody. Not just football, that’s everything. Sports, off the field, whatever you’re doing.

“You’re going to get opportunities in life, it’s all about what do you do with them once you get them. I think these guys seized the moment today. They answered my demands early on.”

Moreover, Branch also made a point that it means a little more to send the seniors off with a victory, and the 2023 season started the minute the clock struck zero for the rest of the Cardinals.

“For these seniors, last year it didn’t end well. The seniors ended up losing a bowl game, and that left that little taste in your mouth. Those guys that are seniors now they were juniors, they get to go off into their next careers in life super happy, super excited about that last moment that they spent with their team,” explained Branch. “The 2022 team is over. The start of next year starts tomorrow. That’s how fast this stuff happens.

“We’ll be sitting here next year, and it comes just like this. At some other bowl game, hopefully it’ll be a national championship. But we’ll be talking about this same moment. Did these guys take all the coaching, did they take all the advice that you gave them? Hopefully Coach Brohm can go on and teach these young men, this first class that he’s going to have and hopefully I’ll be there to help him. That’s the plan.”

Alas, Deion Branch has a ton of love for Louisville, and he’s hoping Jeff Brohm can come in and lead the Cardinals to success. Time will tell, but Branch will be there whenever the new Louisville leader needs a shoulder to lean on.
