According to Chris Low of ESPN, Louisville is “finalizing” a deal to have Jeff Brohm become the program’s next head coach. Six years would be the length of the contract, with Brohm set to make a total of $35 million.

“Jeff Brohm and @LouisvilleFB are in the process of finalizing a deal to bring Brohm back to his alma mater as head coach, sources tell ESPN,” Low said via Twitter. “The deal would be for six years in the $35 million range. Brohm has been at @BoilerFootball the past six seasons.”

Brohm will be returning to his alma mater, playing quarterback for Louisville in the early 1990s. He also got his coaching career started in the city, coaching the Louisville Fire in the Arena Football League in 2002.

Just a year later, he went back to the Cardinals as the quarterbacks coach and really got his career rolling in college football. Brohm worked his way up to offensive coordinator by the 2008 season but lasted just one season in the role. In total, Brohm was on staff for six seasons.

Louisville fans have long wanted Brohm to be their head coach, originally wanting him over Scott Satterfield. With Cincinnati taking Satterfield on, the door was once again open for Brohm to return home. Athletic director Josh Heird was able to get the job done, bringing Brohm in for the next six years.

If Brohm does take over right away, he will immediately go up against his predecessor in the Fenway Bowl, reviving the Keg of Nails rivalry against Satterfield and Cincinnati.

Jeff Brohm head coaching record

The past six seasons for Brohm have been spent with the Purdue Boilermakers and are fresh off an appearance in the Big Ten Championship game. Brohm was just above .500 during his time in West Layfette, both overall and in conference play.

Three of the six seasons Brohm was in charge resulted in winning records for Purdue. Overall, he went 36-34. Four bowl appearances were made if you include this season’s Citrus Bowl appearance later on. Brohm was able to guide the Boilermakers to two wins.

Prior to Purdue, Brohm was at Western Kentucky for three seasons. All were on the winning side, including two Conference USA Championships.

Louisville will be hoping the successful track record from Brohm is brought into their own program. A new era has reportedly begun for the Cardinals.
