It was a scoreless first quarter on Saturday night in the 2023 ACC Championship Game between Florida State and Louisville. Both teams punted numerous times and neither squad could come close to scoring. There were only 37 total yards between both teams in the first quarter. Louisville quarterback Jack Plummer missed a couple of connections on some deep passes. Heading into the second quarter, Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm shared what he told his quarterback on the sideline.

“I think we missed a couple of deep shots. One we dropped. One he underthrew. So, we’ve gotta hit those. They’re gonna cover us. They’ve got a good defense. They can stop the run. We’ve gotta be able to step up…..He’s just gotta hang in there, keep taking care of the ball, and he’s gotta find ways to create plays,” Brohm said.

Florida State ended up winning the game in a low scoring affair, 16-6. They made life very difficult for the College Football Playoff Committee in taking down Brohm and the Cardinals. The College Football Playoff Selection Show is on Sunday at noon EST. That’s when the nation will find out the Seminoles’ destiny.

The FSU defensive line was dominant throughout Saturday night, Braden Fiske racked up three sacks. He was a highly disruptive force in the Cardinals backfield for much of the evening.

Plummer struggled for most of the night, completing 14 of 36 passes for 111 yards. FSU third string quarterback Brock Glenn didn’t play much better, completing eight of his 21 attempts for 55 yards.

Florida State running back Lawrance Toafili brought home MVP honors after he ran for 118 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. He ripped off a 73-yard run from the Wildcat formation to setup a Seminoles score in the third quarter. It was without a doubt, one of the biggest game-changing plays of the game.

Jeff Brohm has accomplished some impressive things

It’s still been very impressive, the job that Jeff Brohm has done this season at Louisville, The Cardinals were picked to finish 8th in the ACC in the preseason polls. And they finished as the ACC runner-up on Saturday night.

That’s certainly a huge accomplishment to be proud of, even if they didn’t get the result they wanted. Louisville currently sits at 10-3 overall and it’ll be interesting to see what bowl they end up in this postseason.

Not only did Brohm guide the Cardinals to a 10-3 record this year. It was also the program’s first ACC Championship Game appearance since Bobby Petrino was their head coach back in 2016.
