Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm did not mince words about the ultimate goal: a national championship. But to do that, Louisville would have to win the ACC en route to the College Football Playoff.

Maybe not this year according to most experts, but based on the parity of the league, it could be anyone’s conference moving forward.

“Well I watch a lot of football and I think every league is slightly different,” Brohm said on Sirius XM. “You know, when you look at the ACC, of course Clemson has been at the top and they played some really, really good football and they have high caliber talent on their team and won big games. So they’re the team that you have to beat and then of course, you see others that have stepped up, like Florida State, North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, Miami, Louisville at times.

“There’s a lot of parity in this league across the board. Duke had a great year, there’s a lot of parity. You got to try to try to figure out a way to get to the top of that.”

Brohm mentioned playing for an ACC Championship means that team can end up playing for a national championship.

“But if you do you got a chance to play for a championship, you got a chance to play for a national championship and that’s what’s exciting,” Brohm said. “You’ve got all the pieces in place that if you do your part as a coach and players, you recruit well, you develop and you find a way to win games.

“You can play against the Alabama’s and the Georgia’s and the teams like that for national championships. And that’s got to be the goal and at some point to try to attain.”

Clemson owned the ACC since 2015 but Pittsburgh and Wake Forest broke the mold in 2021. But many more teams competed last season.

Florida State is expected to be a contender, Duke rose last season and Miami could certainly turn things around fast.

Not to mention, Brohm could have an instant impact on his alma mater after having success as Purdue’s head coach.
