Louisville football added a talented transfer receiver from the FCS on Thursday. Former Central Arkansas wideout Tyler Hudson is set to join the Cardinals next season, he announced via Twitter.

Hudson put together a spectacular sophomore campaign this past season with the Bears. The 6-foot-2, 195 pound receiver finished with 62 receptions for 1,229 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the team. Central Arkansas finished 5-6.

A former three-star recruit, Hudson was ranked as the No. 263 receiver in the 2019 class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He had an impressive list of offers that included Ivy League schools Columbia, Cornell and Harvard.

The receiver burst onto the scene as a freshman, finishing just shy of 1,000 yards (955). He also scored 12 touchdowns that year, a number that is still his career high. In three seasons with the Bears, he compiled more than 3,000 yards receiving and 27 touchdowns. Although the move to Louisville is a step up for the transfer receiver, he will hope to emulate his FCS performance with the Cardinals.

Louisville finished 6-7 this past season under third-year coach Scott Satterfield. That earned the team a trip to the First Responder Bowl, where it suffered a narrow 3`1-28 loss to Air Force.

The Cardinals passing attack received a big boost when dual-threat quarterback Malik Cunningham announced he would return for 2022. He finished this past season with 2,941 passing yards and 39 total touchdowns (20 rushing, 19 passing).

Hudson will likely step in for Jordan Watkins, who transferred to Ole Miss this offseason. Thankfully, he won’t be totally alone. Tight end Marshon Ford and receiver Tyler Harrell, both of whom surpassed 500 yards in 2021, are also returning.

The FCS transfer receiver will get his first opportunity to make an impact in 2022 when Louisville kicks off against UCF on Sept. 10.
