The Louisville Cardinals just picked up a massive win against the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Cardinals dominated the Hokies 34-3, improving to 8-1 on the year. And they did so on the career performance of running back Isaac Guerendo.

After the game, ACC network sideline reporter Ashley Stroehlein caught up with Guerendo to get his thoughts on his impressive performance on the day.

“Honestly, I can’t do anything but thank the o-line, the tight ends, and the fullbacks for blocking their butts off today, making those holes big,” said Guerendo. “It felt good. It felt good to open up a little bit. I haven’t had that a lot this season. But I told myself, ‘Stay patient, it will come,’ and it finally did.”

Guerendo led the charge for Louisville on the ground with 11 carries for 146 yards, averaging 13.3 yards per carry, and finished the game with three of Louisville’s four rushing touchdowns. Guerendo’s 146 yards and three rushing touchdowns are both career highs for the senior running back out of Avon, IN.

While picking up a win is typically always a big deal, Louisville’s victory over Virginia Tech was huge for the Cardinals as they now have the inside track, along with undefeated Florida State, to make it to the ACC championship game. Guerendo also shared a few thoughts on that topic, along with highlighting Louisville’s mindset in order to maintain their winning ways this season.

“It feels good. Obviously, we can’t get too high on the highs and not too low on the lows. Just keep our foot on the gas every single week and come in and treat every single opponent the same. We gotta go 1-0 each week. That’s what we always talk about: continuing to keep that mindset,” said Guerendo.

Surprising to some, both Louisville and Virginia Tech entered this Week 10 contest with a record of 3-1 in ACC play. The winner of this game will control their destiny when it comes to making it to the ACC title game. And that led to Louisville leaving it all on the field Saturday en route to a dominating victory.

Up next for the Cardinals and Guerendo, in Week 11, is another home game against another Virginia-based ACC opponent, the Virginia Cavaliers. The Cavaliers dropped a big one at home on Saturday, losing handily to Georgia Tech 45-17. Still, Virginia is not to be taken lightly as one of their two wins on the season was against another top-ranked ACC opponent on the road as they upset the North Carolina Tar Heels in Week 8.
