T-Bob Hebert On How Lsu Can End Alabama's Hopes

LSU is in a good spot from an injury standpoint heading into Saturday’s showdown with Alabama.

The Tigers suffered no new injuries during the bye week, according to head coach Brian Kelly.

Two players will miss the game, but for the most part, LSU is in a good spot.

“We came out of it clean. We had a great week of preparation. No [new] injuries,” Kelly said.

The two players who will miss the game are defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo and cornerback Zy Alexander.

Mekhi Wingo started the first seven games of the season but was held out of the win over Army in Week 8. He had surgery during LSU’s bye week and will be out for at least the next six weeks, according to Kelly.

Wingo has 22 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks on the season.

Zy Alexander started each of the first eight games of the season, before getting injured against Army. He has been one of LSU’s best defensive backs on the season and has recorded 44 tackles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions.

“Wingo’s out, Zy is out. Those were the two, right?” Kelly said. “Those are the two that they continue to be out.”

Saturday’s SEC showdown between LSU and Alabama is a huge game and very well could decide who wins the SEC West this season.

LSU coach Brian Kelly shares update on Greg Brooks, Jr.

LSU head football coach Brian Kelly shared an update on the health and recovery of Tigers’ safety Greg Brooks, Jr. on Thursday evening. Brooks has recently been going through a battle with a rare form of brain cancer.

In his Thursday evening press conference, Kelly said, “The last I got was late last week. He had another procedure to assist in his recovery. He’s in rehab and working through that process. Nothing that I can say that all is great. He’s still in a battle but is making some progress.”

Everyone involved with the LSU Football program has had defensive back Greg Brooks on their mind recently. He has been away from the football field and in the hospital. Last month, it was announced that Brooks has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer.

“The Brooks family, LSU Athletics, and Our Lady of the Lake Health announced today that Greg Brooks Jr. has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, medulloblastoma,” a tweet from LSU Football said on Oct. 4. “Please support the Greg Brooks Jr. Victory Fund as he continues to battle.”

Brian Kelly spoke out after Brooks’ diagnosis as well, saying LSU will continue to be there to support their player. He asked for donations to the Victory Fund to help the Brooks family through what is going to be a journey.

“Greg and his entire family and support system have been incredibly strong throughout all of this,” Kelly said, via Twitter. “Our program continues to pray and support Greg in his fight. We ask that you help the Brooks family and support the fund as he continues in the journey ahead.”
