In the past, Angel Reese has stated a decision on her future will come once the final game of the 2023-2024 season is over. Reese was likely hoping that would be in Cleveland while celebrating back-to-back national championships with LSU. Unfortunately, Iowa put the Tigers’ year to bed in the Elite Eight — a heartbreaking moment for everyone inside of the program.

So, what’s in store for Reese as far as returning to college basketball and turning pro? Nothing new as of moments following the final buzzer sounded in Albany. Reese was asked if she would be leaving for the WNBA and said when she’s ready, a decision will be announced.

“I’ll make a decision when I’m ready,” Reese said during her postgame press conference.

There is not a ton of time for Reese to make her decision. For players who were eliminated before the Elite Eight, the deadline to declare was on April 1. Since Reese played on April 1, she will have 48 hours and choose between another year in Baton Rouge and likely being a lottery pick in just a couple of week’s time.

If Monday was Reese’s final game in an LSU uniform, the career will end following an incredible 17 points and 20 rebounds. Unfortunately, she did foul out late in the fourth quarter and was called for a charge when driving to the basketball. But Reese was the reason LSU remained competitive throughout against Iowa.

In a WNBA mock draft in early March from ESPN, Reese was projected to go No. 7 overall to the Minnesota Lynx. Despite finishing third in the Western Conference and making the playoffs, Minnesota went 19-21 during the regular season. Connecticut quickly bounced them out in a first-round matchup.

Angel Reese mulling over future after 2023-2024 season ends

Reese just wrapped up her fourth season in college basketball and second with LSU. However, due to COVID-19 eligibility rules, Reese can return for another year and run it back with head coach Kim Mulkey if she chooses to.

Heading into Monday night, Reese was averaging well above a double-double, going for 18.7 points and 12.2 rebounds a night. Her best performance of the season came against Auburn in the regular season, dropping 25 points and hauling in a season-high 20 rebounds. It was the seventh 20-20 performance of Reese’s career.

From a team perspective, not coming home to Baton Rouge with a trophy will have to disappoint Reese. LSU won not just the national title last season but also the SEC Tournament.

South Carolina won the SEC regular season and tournament championship this season and has the chance of adding the national championship with two more wins.
