The LSU community is wishing for a speedy recovery for Jimmy Lindsey, the defensive line coach for the Tiger football team, after news broke this week that he had to step away from the team due to a “personal health matter.”

That report first came on Wednesday, and on Thursday, LSU head coach Brian Kelly met with media for his regularly scheduled press conference. Of course, he was asked about Jimmy Lindsey’s most recent status, to which the Tiger head coach responded that he could not speak on the issue and all handling of it has been left up to medical professionals.

“Really don’t. It’s really in medical hands at this point, and you know, we’re trying to stay updated,” said Kelly, who noted that he does expect an update on Lindsey later on in the day. “We’ll probably get another update sometime today.”

So, no word yet on what is up with Coach Lindsey, but per Brian Kelly, there could be an update on him as early as this evening.

More on Jimmy Lindsey situation

In a statement released Wednesday, Brian Kelly commented the following on the sudden Lindsey news:

“Defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey will step away from the LSU Football program as he deals with a personal health matter. In Coach Lindsey’s absence, John Jancek will serve as defensive line coach and Bob Diaco will coach outside linebackers and special teams,” Kelly said, via Jacques Doucet. “Our prayers are with Coach Lindsey and his family, and we ask that their privacy be respected. We look forward to his return to the program.”

Lindsey was hired by Kelly back in May after coaching the defensive line at South Carolina for the past two years. He was hired by Shane Beamer to be a part of his initial staff in Columbia. He brings with him over two decades of coaching experience throughout the college football landscape.

Before his two seasons at South Carolina, Lindsey most recently spent time at Georgia Southern, Western Kentucky and Illinois.

“Jimmy is an outstanding defensive line coach and we are excited to welcome him to our staff,” Kelly said at the time of his hire. “He will do a great job of not only coaching our players on the field, but also helping them develop off the field as we continue our commitment to graduating champions.

“Jimmy has a proven track record of developing defensive linemen and I know our players are going to benefit from his expertise.”
