Brian Kelly not worried about Jalen Preston's prediction for Texas A&M game

To finish off the season, LSU has one more huge SEC West rivalry game against Texas A&M. As preparation for the game gets underway, the Aggies, Jalen Preston, provided Brian Kelly and his Tigers with some bulletin board material, or so we thought. When asked about Preston’s prediction for the Texas A&M game, Kelly gave an answer highlighting his level of concern with the statement. And he also gave his take on how he would handle that situation if he were the Aggies’ head man.

“Yeah, so, if he was going to be playing for us, if he was one of my players, I would right now probably discipline him,” said Kelly. “But for us, it’s really about our preparation, and how we prepare is gonna make a bigger difference than what anybody says about us. So I kind of got through that a long time ago; that what people say has really little to do on how you play.

“Look, we know it’s a rivalry game. We know A&M; our guys know that. They don’t need any more motivation to play this game. So, that’s a distraction. We’ll focus on what will get us to play better, and that’s our preparation; we’ll focus on that.”

LSU’s last game of the regular season, before they take on Georgia in the SEC championship game, will be an evening matchup with Texas A&M at their home of Kyle Field. Tigers enter Saturday’s game as 10-point favorites according to Caesar’s Sportsbook.

And ESPN’s matchup predictor gives LSU a 73.4 percent chance at victory. The Tigers still have a strong chance at making the College Football Playoffs if they upset Georgia in the SEC championship game. But first, they must handle business on the road against their rivals from the West.

After they face off against LSU, Texas A&M season is likely over. Barring an unlikely turn of events, where the Aggies replace another team in a bowl game, they will not participate in this year’s bowl season after failing to qualify with the minimum of six wins. So it is understandable why Preston, a senior, is putting so much emphasis on this game, being that it is likely his last game as an Aggie.

Still, LSU understands the magnitude of this game, as pointed out by Kelly. Even if national championship aspirations were not on the line, this is still a rivalry game. And Kelly would expect his team to enter the game motivated by that premise alone.
