Brian Kelly previews LSU at Ole Miss

LSU is 2-0 in conference play after escaping Week 4 with a 34-31 victory over Arkansas at home, and the Tigers are on a roll and are feeling overall healthy heading into the bulk of SEC play.

As they begin game week for Ole Miss this weekend, head coach Brian Kelly revealed a surprisingly positive update regarding the Tigers’ Week 5 injury report.

“Leading into it, we don’t have anybody that we would list as anything but probably for the game,” Kelly revealed on Monday.

Two of the bigger question marks heading into last weekend’s Arkansas game were tight end Mason Taylor and Jack linebacker Ovie Oghoufo, who were both questionable leading into the matchup. Taylor had missed the previous week with an ankle injury, while Oghoufo was limited to a special teams role.

Taylor would go on to haul in three receptions for 33 yards. Oghoufo did not record any stats, but both seem healthy heading into Saturday’s ranked matchup vs. Ole Miss.

Linebacker Omar Speights has missed the past two games with a hip flexor but is on the right track for the weekend, but that wraps up the list for the Tigers as no major injuries occurred during the game vs. the Razorbacks.

One name that LSU has been missing mightily is that of Greg Brooks Jr.

Not only are they missing his services on the field, but the entire Tigers community has come together in support of him as he deals with a recently diagnosed large brain tumor that required emergency surgery.

During the lead-up to last Saturday’s game against the Razorbacks, Kelly revealed the events that occurred leading up to discovering the tumor during last week’s SEC teleconference, noting how the team discovered his condition after repeated bouts with vertigo during fall camp, which bled into the season.

“We were trying to find out what the symptoms were and he had another episode,” Kelly said. “He had dizziness again on Wednesday of last week. Finally, we said enough’s enough and we got an MRI and that’s when the tumor was located. So the vertigo was just a symptom of what was obviously a larger issue.”

Kelly did not provide a timeline for Brooks, as not only is this not a football-related injury — this matter will likely stay private until Brooks shares it himself. Until then, he’s cheering on his Tigers from the side as he hopes to make a speedy recovery.
