Cade York has only been kicking at LSU for two seasons, but he has already established himself as one of the best in school history. York is entering his third season with LSU, and head coach Ed Orgeron knows how important York is to the team’s overall success.

Orgeron: York is money

In addition to being accurate as a kicker, York has a powerful leg and can make kicks from almost anywhere. Offensive and defensive players get most of the attention and credit for winning football games, but special teams is important as well. For LSU, York gives them a chance to put points on the board every time they cross midfield.

“Money,” Orgeron said of York. “He’s 55, 56, 57, 58. That’s a weapon on our football team. And it gives us confidence that when we get inside the 40-yard line, we can score points.”

York has already proven to be one of the best kickers in LSU history

As a freshman in 2019, York made 21 of his 27 field goal attempts. He also led the nation with 89 PATs and was second in the country with 152 points. The only player that accounted for more points than York in 2019 was dominant Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor.

Last season, York performed even better for LSU than he did as a freshman. He made 18 of his 21 field goal attempts, an 85.7 percentage. York also made all 36 of his PATs. His 18 field goals led the SEC and was the sixth most in all of college football. He set an LSU record with six field goals from 50 yards or longer. His impressive sophomore campaign earned him second team All-America honors and was a first team All-SEC selection.

In just two seasons, York holds LSU records with 10 career 50-yard field goals and six in a single season. He ranks fifth in LSU history with 39 field goals in his career, and he has scored the fourth most points in LSU history by kicking with 242 points.
