Things descended into chaos on Sunday in the 2024 Women’s SEC Tournament Championship game between the LSU Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks. Things got chippy, a scuffle between both teams broke out, and Flau’jae Johnson’s brother even jumped over the scorer’s table and out onto the court. He was quickly nabbed by police before anything happened, which led many to believe he had been arrested.

Via Reed Darcey of The Advocate, a LSU spokesperson relayed that Flau’jae Johnson’s brother was not arrested for jumping out onto the court. He was simply escorted out of the building.

Here is the video clip of the incident.

More details on the fight between Flau’jae Johnson and Kamilla Cardoso

Gamecocks center Kamilla Cardoso was one of six players ejected from the game following the scuffle, playing a key role in the altercation after pushing LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson to the floor following an intentional foul.

After that chaos broke out, with members of both benches becoming involved in the scuffle and even Johnson’s brother making his way on the court before police escorted him off in handcuffs.

The multitude of ejections led to LSU finishing the game with five players and South Carolina closing things out with just six, also resulting in their best player missing their next matchup.

Cardoso averaged 14.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game this season along with an SEC-leading 2.6 blocks per game. Fresh off of hitting a game-winning, buzzer-beating three-pointer in South Carolina’s previous game in the SEC Tournament seminal against Tennessee to keep their season perfect.

Against South Carolina on Sunday night, Johnson stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists in 40 minutes of work. This season, she’s been averaging 14.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game for the Tigers, while shooting 49.6% from the field.

It hasn’t taken her long to become of the best players in women’s college basketball. She earned 2023 SEC Freshman of the Year honors last year after she helped guide the Tigers to a 2023 National Championship. In the National Championship Game, she stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

A dynamic rap star as well, Johnson also signed a record deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. She was one of the most decorated high school prospects in the country coming out of high school, earning McDonald’s All-American honors.
