The LSU coaching staff continues to waste little time meeting with its commitments and top targets now that Brian Kelly is on board as the new head coach. One of the important pledges LSU is doing everything to keep locked up is On3 Consensus four-star cornerback Laterrance Welch of Lafayette (La.) Acadiana.

Welch, who has been committed to LSU since last January, shared a photo Friday morning of him during a visit with LSU cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator Corey Raymond.

The photo had a simple caption – a Tiger emoji.

Raymond is one of the ace recruiters on LSU’s past and new staff and keeping Welch on board is a top priority.

But the good news for Tiger fans is that it appears all is well in the Welch household. Laterrance Welch appears locked for LSU, despite pushes from other programs to get him to look around.

Laterrance Welch is ranked as the No. 144 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He is also the 16th best cornerback and the No. 12 player in Louisiana. On3 ranks him as the No. 14 player in Louisiana.

Laterrance Welch believes in Corey Raymond

Laterrance Welch said a key factor in his decision was Raymond.

“Coach Raymond is important for me,” Welch said. “He is a great coach that puts guys into the NFL and I think he could help me develop. We have that trust, we have a strong relationship, and him being at LSU is important to me.”

It also helps that LSU is the in-state and hometown school.

“I have visited LSU around 10 times and it feels like home,” Laterrance Welch said. “It is right down the street, I am comfortable there, and it is like home.”

AuburnFlorida State and Texas A&M are others that have not stopped trying to recruit him.
