Loganville (Ga.) Grayson safety Michael Daugherty was at LSU for the program’s junior day earlier this month, but it went so well that he will be back this weekend for an official visit, he announced Thursday evening.

Daugherty is the No. 239 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 20 safety and the No. 25 junior prospect in the Peach State.

LSU made a major move for Michael Daugherty

The Tigers’ new coaching staff made a big impression on him during his junior day visit, and it pushed LSU into pole position in his recruitment.

“The atmosphere was infectious with high energy and laughs,” Daugherty told The Bengal Tiger. “The coaching staff stands out with the way they carry themselves and how down to earth they are. My 1-on-1 Conversation with Coach Kelly was surreal and just showed me what kind of man he is. … It’s a different atmosphere in Baton Rouge. They’re toward the top of my list.”

Daugherty said North Carolina, Miami, Louisville, Auburn and others are among his other top schools. He hasn’t taken official visits anywhere else. But he wants to commit on April 13, which marks two years since his grandfather passed away from cancer. He is planning to graduate early and begin his college career.

“I think the biggest thing for me is just being able to go see those colleges and really pick their brains outside of football,” Daugherty previously said of what he’s looking for. “I feel like anywhere I go is going to be, God willing, I will be able to succeed and that person I know I am and have fun on the field, eventually the game ends. Definitely want to be able to have that academic background that will support my future.
