In what feels like an annual tradition, we will have to wait an extra week for a highly anticipated LSUAlabama matchup. Head coach Brian Kelly will have his team rest up during a bye before a potential SEC West decider takes place at Tiger Stadium. Coming off a top-10 win vs. Ole Miss, the hope is that the momentum carries over into November.

Until kickoff, getting healthy will be a top priority. Kelly provided an update on three key starters during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches teleconference. Jack Bech, Major Burns, and John Emery need t get healthy before Alabama, with positive news all around.

Kelly began with Burns, saying this will be the final week of non-contact for the defensive back. An exciting nugget for LSU fans as he is expected back into the game plan heading into Alabama.

“Major will be non-contact for the rest of the week and then be cleared for Monday,” Kelly said. “We’re excited about that for Major. So, he is in the game plan to play against Alabama.”

Jack Bech expected to play on Nov. 15

Bech was not able to play Saturday against Ole Miss, dealing with a lower back strain. Kelly said the wide receiver will be taking the time to heal up during the bye, staying in Baton Rouge. Because of that, Bech has told Kelly he’s on track to play in two weeks’ time.

“Jack is going to stay around here,” said Kelly. “He’s not going to go home. He’ll be here all weekend preparing. I asked him yesterday ‘what’s your feeling about Alabama.’ He goes ‘no doubt, I’ll be playing.’ I think that’s the mentality that he has.”

Bech has been a useful weapon at times for LSU at times, having 10 receptions on the season. He has gone for 81 yards and gotten into the end zone once against Southern.

Brian Kelly provides update on John Emery

The final update provided by Kelly was an important one, saying Emery is considered day-to-day. It’s an Achilles problem bothering the running back. Luckily, there is some time to get better for Emery.

“Emery has to Achilles tendon strain,” Kelly explained. “I think he’s probably day-to-day.”

Emery has been through a lot to get back on the field and has been worth the wait for LSU. Thus far, he’s run for 154 yards and a touchdown in five games. If he is able to sure up his Achilles, Emery should project to be a huge asset for the Tigers against Alabama.
