Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher gave an emphatic response on Monday to speculations about his potential interest in the open job at LSU. Based on his comments, it sounds like Fisher isn’t welcoming any flirtations to fill Ed Orgeron’s shoes.

“I love being here,” Fisher said at his press conference on Monday. “This is the job I wanted, I have a great contract, I have an unbelievable chancellor, an unbelievable president, an unbelievable AD. We’re building something. We’re recruiting great players. I really believe we’re in the process of building something great.

“I plan on being here and fulfilling this contract. My family has roots here. I got ranches here, I hunt here. I love everything about this place.”

Fisher is just one of many high-profile candidates that LSU might consider to replace Orgeron, but his ties to the program makes him one of the more likely choices. Also, Tigers’ AD Scott Woodard hired Fisher at A&M before going to LSU in 2019.

Fisher, 56, was the Tigers’ offensive coordinator from 2000-06 under Nick Saban and Les Miles. Fisher won a national title as coach at Florida State and is 14-3 the past two seasons at A&M (with a recent win over Saban and then-No. 1 Alabama).

Fisher agreed to a contract extension with A&M through the 2031 season, however, he can leave without owing a buyout.

As his squad continues navigating their 5-2 season, sitting at No. 17 in the nation, the head Ag is shutting down all the rumors.

“There’s nothing going on there,” Fisher continued. “Nothing happening there … I coached there, we won national championships, it’s a wonderful place. I love being at A&M, I plan on being here and fulfilling my whole contract.”

Fisher amongst top five to take LSU job, according to oddsmakers

Ed Orgeron and LSU agreeing to part ways shook the college football world to its core on Sunday. Now, the Tigers turn their focus to finding a suitable replacement for their soon-to-be-former coach.

In addition to LSU, the USC Trojans are also looking for the man who will lead them into a new era.
