Trey’Dez Green had offers from programs across the country, and he considered a number of those programs. But his heart was back in home in Louisiana, and the Jackson East Feliciana star made it official on Wednesday afternoon by committing to the in-state LSU Tigers.

“The biggest reason I chose LSU is because it’s home and I’m a home body,” he told On3. “I love representing the people I love and care about. LSU just fits me because I’m a ‘Boot Boy’ from Louisiana. The end goal for me is to get a degree and play pro ball, whether it’s basketball or football.”

Green is the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 3-ranked tight end in the country and the No. 2 player from Louisiana this cycle.

As a junior this past fall, he reeled in 42 catches for 864 yards and 14 touchdowns. He averaged a double-double on the hardwood as well, pouring in 27 points, 11 rebounds, 8 blocks and 5 assists per game for East Feliciana’s hoops team.

LSU hit all the right notes with Trey’Dez Green

AlabamaTennesseeTexas A&M and Miami were among his other finalists, but it was just a different connection with Brian Kelly and the Tigers’ coaching staff. LSU prioritized him not just as a football recruit, but his academic and basketball aspirations were important as well. Green is one of the top power forwards in the state and carries a 3.9 GPA.

“What those coaches did differently was none other than have my best interest at heart, which is proceeding my academic career on the next level,” Green said. “The feeling is impeccable that I get to see my family and friends gather around me and I could announce something to them that can potentially take care of me and their lives forever.”

From the top down, the Tigers made Green and his family feel like a top priority. And their individual attention to detail set them apart from other schools.

“They’ve always made my mom feel welcomed every time,” Green told On3 after naming the Tigers as a finalist. “They have an individual plan for everything. It’s a great university all around with resources and the nutrition side stood out a lot. The one-on-one interactions and the academic standpoint of LSU also stood out as well.”

Another top in-state prospect is staying home

Green checks in as the No. 59 overall prospect player in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He also marks the sixth in-state commitment for the Tigers this cycle and gives them pledges from three of the top six players in the Boot in 2024.

The other three are still on the board, with the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) heavily favoring LSU for five-star Lafayette Acadiana defensive lineman Dominick McKinley, elite Marreo John Ehret cornerback Wardell Mack and stud linebacker Tylen Singleton out of Many.

The Tigers also move up to No. 9 nationally in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings with Green on board as Kelly and Co. look to poised to compete for another top-five class.
