Brian Kelly is putting together another elite recruiting class at LSU.

As of Dec. 12, LSU currently has 27 commitments in the 2024 cycle, 11 of whom are projected to play on the offensive side of the ball, while 15 are expected to play defense, leaving one pledge for the special teams unit.

The Tigers’ class checks in as the No. 12 overall class in the nation and the No. 7 class in the SEC, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking.

LSU Class Breakdown

LSU’s class consists of 17 four-stars and 10 three-star prospects. The Tigers are behind only Georgia for the most four-star commitments in the nation. Headlining the class are three top-100 pledges: Jackson (La.) Zachary four-star tight end Trey’Dez Green, Denham Springs (La.) four-star safety Dashawn McBryde and Beaumont (Texas) United four-star offensive tackle Weston Davis.

Three additional top-200 recruits are committed to Kelly and LSU: Duncanville (Texas) four-star running back Caden Durham, Many (La.) four-star linebacker Tylen Singleton and Houston Atascocita four-star wide receiver Jelani Watkins.

Four-star and five-star prospects are rated as ‘blue-chip’ prospects — LSU’s class sits at No. 10 nationally in blue-chip percentage at 62.96%. The average distance of an LSU recruit’s hometown to Baton Rouge is 191.3 miles and 67% of the class hails from the state of Louisiana.

Top Commit: TE Trey’Dez Green

The 6-foot-6.5, 230-pound Green is the highest-ranked offensive and overall commitment for the Tigers this cycle, ranking as the nation’s No. 38 overall prospect and No. 1 tight end. He has been committed to LSU since April 26.

On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about him as a prospect:

“High flying tight end prospect who plays above the rim on the football field as well as the basketball court. Highly rated basketball player who has serious bounce on the hardwood. 50-50 balls are closer to 70-30 for him with his ability to high point the football. Has rare body control and balance for someone his age with his size. Will have some growing pains as a blocker, but his ability to move and go up and get the football with his size is rare for the position. Arguably the top pass-catching mismatch early on in the 2024 cycle.”

Top Defense Commit: Safety Dashawn McBryde

The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder is the highest-ranked pledge for the Tigers on the defensive side, checking in as the No. 68 overall prospect and No. 4 safety. He committed to LSU just four days before Green on April 22.

On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about him:

“Ballhawking safety who is one of the more physically-gifted prospects at the position in the 2024 cycle. Has a college-ready physique, checking in at a shade under 6-foot-3 and close to 200 pounds prior to his senior season. Has plus length with a 33-inch arm. Shined on the track prior to his senior season running 11.09 in the 100m and jumping over 23-feet in the long jump. A big game hunter who came down with nine interceptions as a junior. An imposing physical presence in the secondary. Smooth in his movements. Naturally coordinated and easily tracking and high-pointing the ball.

…Flashes glimpses of physicality. Can improve overall consistency and reliability as a tackler. Takes inconsistent angles. Will benefit from continued experience as he does not always play as fast as he tests athletically. Has one of the highest upsides among safeties in the 2024 cycle, but will need development to approach his high ceiling.”
