LSU‘s three-horse race at quarterback dwindled down to two, with Myles Brennan walking away from football on Monday. After originally entering the transfer portal this offseason, Brennan was swayed back to Baton Rouge before deciding to hang up the cleats once and for all.

On3’s Ivan Maisel broke down Brennan leaving the sport, saying his age may have played into the decision. Brennan, who was slated to be a sixth-year player, had been around since Ed Orgeron’s first season with the program. Now with Brian Kelly in charge, Masiel thinks Brennan was just ready to move on in life.

“It’s one of those things that we are experiencing, really as a result of the pandemic,” Maisel said. “You got a sixth-year guy who, probably ready to go on with his life, and if he’s not going to play then keep moving. A new head coach, older quarterback. Doesn’t fit the scheme. It’s not unusual. The part that’s unusual is that we’re in this situation. I think we’re going to see a few more of those sixth-year guys quietly go away in the next two weeks.”

Brennan was slated to be the starter in 2021 but got injured just before training camp got underway. He was able to make three starts for LSU over his lengthy career, throwing for a career total of 1,712 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Myles Brennan still cashes in on NIL despite stepping away from football

Even though Brennan won’t play college football this season, he will still walk away with a decent chunk of NIL change. Brennan surprisingly announced his retirement from football Monday after a five-year career with the Tigers.

Although some might think that would put Brennan’s NIL deals in jeopardy, Action Network’s Darren Rovell tweeted Monday afternoon that the quarterback has nothing to worry about.

“Myles Brennan signed NIL deals with Raising Canes, Smoothie King, GameCoin, Smalls Sliders and Hollingsford Richards Ford,” Rovell wrote. “He didn’t play a single game since signing, but because NIL deals can’t be based on performance, he keeps all the money.”

Most of Brennan’s NIL deals were signed prior to the start of the 2021 season, however he also teamed up with Walk-On’s Sports Bistreau in February. According to On3, Brennan has an NIL valuation of $327,000, which ranks 112th among all college football players.
