The LSU running back room took a hit for their Week 1 opening matchup versus Florida State, as the Tigers’ football account revealed that running back Armoni Goodwin would be unavailable ahead of Sunday’s game.

Goodwin made the most of his carries last season for LSU, earning 45 carries and rushing for 267 yards and five touchdowns in his sophomore season for the Tigers. He made three starts for LSU last year, appearing in seven games, but won’t be present in the team’s opener in a marquee matchup.

The Tigers ran the ball with a committee last season, featuring six different rushers last season in their first year under head coach Brian Kelly. But the Tigers’ will be one rusher short in their typical roatation on Sunday.

The Tigers may be short Goodwin when the face the Seminoles, but they will have their leading running back rusher in Josh Williams. Williams rushed for 532 yards and six touchdowns last season for the Tigers, but was listed as probable during the week heading into game day.

But Williams has since been upgraded to available along with running backs Noah Cain, Logan Diggs, and Kaleb Jackson.

Goodwin was a four-star prospect out of Hewitt-Trussville High School in Alabama, where he was ranked No. 7 running back and the No. 106 overall prospect in the nation for the 2021 class according to On3’s Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He’s an elusive back that’s rushed for 322 career rushing yards and five touchdowns on 61 carries in his two seasons with the Tigers, but injuries have kept him off of the field in his career and will on Sunday.

He had five carries for 14 yards last season versus the Seminoles, but the Tigers will have to rely on the rest of their running back room when the face FSU on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
