Matt McMahon knows that his LSU Tigers are better with Trae Hannibal on the floor and playing well. However, he stumbled against Mississippi State and it ended up becoming a key piece of why the Bulldogs were able to beat the Tigers.

Despite the bad game, McMahon still praised Hannibal and made it clear that he fully expects him to play well again soon for LSU.

“It’s been a big key to the progress we’ve made as a team,” Matt McMahon said. “I think he’s 41-15 in SEC play, coming into tonight, which has been really good for us. He’s done a great job getting everyone involved. You saw the seven assists, zero turnovers on Wednesday.”

This season, Trae Hannibal has averaged 20.9 minutes per game. During that playing time, he has averaged 5.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. Most importantly, he has 70 assists to only 44 turnovers this season.

The Mississippi State game was a difficult one for Hannibal, though. He only had two assists and turned the ball over seven times. That was in 36 minute effort, as he’s seen his playing time go up significantly in recent games.

Those extra minutes are something that Matt McMahon wondered if they could be impacting the turnovers.

“We’re asking him to do a lot, we’re down almost half the roster tonight, after Tyrell [Ward’s] injury. So, I think some of those turnovers were fatigue, but he’ll bounce back,” McMahon said. “He’ll bounce back and we’ve just got to do a better job. I’ve got to get the guys in a better position offensively so we can get that ball moving and get higher quality shots.”

Trae Hannibal will get a chance to bounce back on Tuesday when LSU will host Georgia.

SEC levies $100K fine on LSU for court storming after Kentucky upset

On Wednesday, LSU got a huge upset win over Kentucky. Immediately, for fans and players, it was pandemonium as fans stormed the court to celebrate.

In response to that, the SEC has issued a fine of $100,000 to LSU for having its fans storm the court. That, of course, came as no surprise to LSU, as the SEC has policies in place to fine institutions where fans storm the field or court as a way to try and dissuade that type of behavior.

A fine of $100,000 is for a first court storming offense. Additional fines could climb to $250,000 and $500,000 for second and third offenses.
