LSU Tigers quarterback Myles Brennan did not play this season after suffering a compound fracture in his non-throwing arm just before the season. He did not return to the field this season, and entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Nov. 3.

But after exploring his options, Brennan has decided to remove his name from the portal and will instead return to LSU for another season.

“There’s no place like home,” Brennan tweeted. “Let’s ride tiger nation!”

Before his injury, Brennan was engaged in a battle with Max Johnson for the starting quarterback job at LSU. Brennan also missed the majority of the 2020 season with a torn abdomen. Prior to his injury in 2020, Brennan was 79-of-131 for 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has thrown for 1,712 yards in his LSU career, which began in 2017.

Johnson also recently entered the transfer portal, leaving Garrett Nussmeier as the only scholarship on LSU’s roster for the upcoming bowl game. Playing Nussmeier would likely burn his redshirt, which has been an ongoing conversation at LSU for a lot of the later portion of the season.

Next season, Nussmeier and Brennan will be joined by On3 Consensus four-star quarterback Walker Howard at LSU. Howard officially signed with the Tigers on National Signing Day on Wednesday. The On3 Consensus rankings list Howard as the fifth best quarterback and 40th overall recruit in the 2022 class.

LSU working through the quarterback situation for the bowl game

LSU will take on Kansas State on Jan. 4 in the Texas bowl. As LSU’s quarterback room continues to change, who plays that game is currently unknown. Interim head coach Brad Davis said that LSU is working through Nussmeier’s redshirt situation, and that the Tigers hope that he will be able to play while maintaining his redshirt. It is unknown if Brennan is an option to play for LSU in the bowl game.

“So, the quarterback situation obviously is something everybody wants to know about. We’re put we’ve put together a plan here that we feel really great about,” Davis said on Wednesday. “You know we have a multitude of quarterbacks taking reps during practice, Garrett Nussmeier being one of them. We’re working through some things right now to be able to have him play for us and still maintain his red shirt.

“And so that’s something obviously that’s in process you know and if that were denied for whatever reason, we have some contingencies in place. We will be able to move the football with execute our offense.”
