LSU completed their game-winning drive over Texas A&M after a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jaray Jenkins with 20 seconds remaining in the game. It was Jenkins’ second touchdown grab of the game as LSU defeated the Aggies in head coach Ed Orgeron’s final game coaching in Death Valley.

Jaray Jenkins’ game-winning touchdown

The Tigers completed their the upset win over No. 15 Texas A&M in what may potentially be their final game of the season as they await bowl game assignments. While the future of their 2021 season is still unknown, it was the final time for Orgeron to lead LSU in their home stadium in Death Valley.

After getting the ball back from the Aggies with just under two minutes remaining in the game, quarterback Max Johnson led LSU down the field 85 yards on 9 plays. The drive was capped off by Johnson finding Jenkins in the end zone for the second time, on a pass delivered as the Aggies pass rush laid a big hit on the quarterback.

Jenkins was in single coverage and got the step on his defender, giving just enough of a window for Johnson’s pass to reach him before the safety help came over the top.

LSU took a ten-point lead early in the second quarter after a deep touchdown the first time Johnson and Jenkins connected. As Jenkins lined up in the slot, LSU ran a sort of rub route to give him space to blow by his defender on the deep route. Johnson hit him on the sideline without a safety anywhere near the catch, and Jenkins’ speed allowed him to finish the play in the end zone.

Jenkins finished the game with eight catches for 169 yards and the two touchdowns.

Ed Orgeron on coaching his final game in Death Valley

During his weekly press conference ahead of Saturday’s game, Orgeron was asked what he would remember the most from his time leading the LSU program and what he’ll take away from it when his tenure officially comes to a close soon.

“You know, the day-to-day basis,” Orgeron said. “Excitement to come to work, seeing the players, going out and recruiting, coming down the Tiger Walk, the 2019 season, the getting the big recruit, going out there and competing with all of the players and coaches we’ve been through. It’s been phenomenal.”

After making that impactful statement about his time in Baton Rouge, Orgeron was then asked by another reporter if the good things that have happened with him as LSU’s head coach outweighed the bad.

“Oh yeah – no question,” Orgeron said. “I ain’t had a bad day yet. I’m not going to have a bad day. I think I’m going to make it.”
