Top-150 power forward Damarius Owens commits to Marquette

Damarius Owens, a three-star power forward in the 2024 class, has committed to Marquette and head coach Shaka Smart.

The 6-foot-8 junior out of Hudson (OH) Western Reserve Academy ultimately chose the Golden Eagles over Syracuse and Virginia Tech. He also received offers from Cincinnati, Alabama, Creighton, Xavier, and others.

He’s the first prospect to commit to Marquette in the class of 2024.

Owens, a Rochester, NY native, ranks as the No. 145 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus — the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3).

“I chose Marquette because of the relationship that the coaching staff has with my family and me,” Owens said to On3. “Those guys have a plan for me and see something in me. Marquette is also a basketball school and they have that free/up-and-down play style that I believe I would thrive in.”

What type of player is Marquette getting in Damarius Owens, in his own words?

“I would describe my game as versatile. I can score at all three levels and one thing I love about my game is the ability to impact the game on both sides of the floor. My length and athleticism allows me to get deflections and rebound well on the offensive/defensive glass.”
