Another highly talented player has opted to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal prior to the completion of college football spring practice. On3 has learned that Joel Williams of the Memphis Tigers has opted to enter his name into the transfer portal in hopes of finding a new home before the start of the 2024 season.

Williams, who is native to Louisiana and grew up in the same city that is home to the LSU Tigers, Baton Rouge, opted to play for the Kentucky Wildcats to start his collegiate career.

With the Wildcats, Williams played just four games over a two-year span. He went on to record five total tackles, three of them solo tackles. At the conclusion of the 2021 season, Williams jumped into the transfer portal for the first time. He didn’t have to travel far to find his new home, landing in Memphis, Tennessee, with the Tigers.

In Memphis, he would play in 13 total games. After playing in nine games his first season on campus, the former Wildcat saw his playing time cut by more than 50 percent, playing in just four games last season.

Williams’s time in Memphis concluded with him recording 16 total tackles, 13 solo, and one sack, forced fumble, and an interception.

Williams played high school football at Madison Prep Academy in Baton Rouge, LA, where he was a four-star prospect. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, he was the No. 353 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle. William was also the 15th best player to come out of the state of Louisiana in a class that included Kayshon Boutte, Jaquelin Roy, and Major Burns.
