Quincy (Fla.) Gadsden County three-star offensive tackle Lamar Williams has decommitted from Miami, he announced on Thursday.

He was pledged to the Hurricanes since Feb. 2, when he chose the in-state program over the likes of Florida State, West Virginia and Maryland.

Williams is the No. 506 overall prospect and No. 33 OT in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 67 player in Florida.

“First and foremost I want to thank Miami for accepting me into the family. After careful consideration I will be decommitting. This is only to give myself a fair chance to evaluate all options to make sure I am making the best decision for me and my family. My recruitment is 100-percent open. I see a lot of false narratives going around but I can’t focus on that,” Williams wrote on X.

Canes lose in-state pledge in 2025 class

The loss of Williams brings Miami down to six commitments in its 2025 class, which ranks No. 15 in the nation and No. 3 in the ACC in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez is the top-ranked pledge in the class for the Canes, checking in just outside of the On3 Industry Ranking top-150. Also a top-20 player at his position, Melendez is one of four in-state commits.

April brought a pair of tight end commitments for Miami. Cincinnati Lakota West four-star TE Luka Gilbert pledged on April 8 and was followed by Leo (Ind.) four-star TE Brock Schott less than a week later. Both are top-250 recruits and top-15 players at the position.

Tampa Armwood four-star running back Girard Pringle announced his commitment at the end of March, choosing the in-state school over the likes of Florida, Auburn, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton four-star quarterback Luke Nickel was the first pledge in the 2025 class and he’s now the No. 24 signal-caller in the cycle.

Boynton Beach (Fla.) Palm Beach Central four-star wide receiver Waden Charles rounds out the class as a top-350 recruit and top-50 wideout overall.
