Miami is in the thick of things for Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star running back Byron Louis. After visiting Florida State last weekend, the blue-chip burner told On3’s Chad Simmons that he’ll make the quick trip to Coral Gables to see the Hurricanes in the coming days.

On Wednesday, Louis announced that he has locked in an official visit with Miami for May 31-June 2.

Louis has already seen Miami once this year, just before the February dead period. Mario Cristobal and the Canes staff have already made some major impressions on the in-state recruit and will look to do the same once more this weekend.

“I mean, it was amazing,” Louis told CaneSport after his January trip. “It’s the University of Miami, it’s home. What’s not great to come back? I’m glad I came.”

Ohio State is currently trending for Louis in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), but following the departure of RBs coach Tony Alford to Michigan, pulling Louis out of the Sunshine State could prove to be much more challenging for the Buckeyes.

“At different times, again here, I would say different schools have been trending. But a consistent name has always been Miami. Doing a great job there recruiting him. They’ve done a good job the last couple of years going against Ohio State … I think Louis has kind of emerged as that guy in the 305 they want to keep home in South Florida,” Simmons said earlier this month.

Louis is the No. 178 overall prospect and No. 10 RB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 25 player in Florida.

“Right now I’m just enjoying these visits,” Louis told On3 on March 1. “I didn’t take a lot of visits during my junior season. There were a lot of question marks on me and my ability – `Can I withstand 18, 20 carries a game? Can I be the guy?’ I was playing behind Mark Fletcher the last two years, and I feel like I checked off a lot of those question marks. Now it’s more about me producing, doing what I can do. As of right now I’m just enjoying my visits.”

Miami 2025 Class Breakdown

Miami now owns five commits in its 2025 class after the addition of Tampa Armwood four-star running back Girard Pringle last weekend. He’s a top-100 recruit and the No. 6 RB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On300.

Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez helps headline as the No. 155 prospect and the No. 18 LB in the On3 Industry Ranking. He committed to the Hurricanes on Dec. 16.

Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton four-star quarterback Luke Nickel was a riser in the updated 2025 On300 and is now is a top-25 signal-caller in the Industry Rankings. On3 ranks him as the No. 152 recruit, overall.

Boynton Beach (Fla.) Palm Beach Central four-star wide receiver Waden Charles and Quincy (Fla.) Gadsden County three-star offensive tackle Lamar Williams round out the class, which currently ranks No. 16 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
