Miami and Ohio State recently emerged as the top contenders for Leo (Ind.) Leo Junior/Senior four-star tight end Brock Schott. Since then, he has been going “back and forth” between the programs.

The Hurricanes made Schott feel like a priority and he rewarded them for that effort. The 6-foot-3.5, 215-pound pass-catcher announced his commitment to Miami on Saturday, becoming the second tight end to choose the Hurricanes in five days along with Cincinnati (Ohio) Lakota West four-star Luka Gilbert

“Miami’s been a school that’s been on me since very early in my recruitment,” Schott told On3. “They were on me since day one. Mario Cristobal, he’s really shown how much they want me. They showed me that I’m their No. 1 guy at tight end and they were willing to do as much as they could recruiting-wise to get me.

“They were making sure I got all the information, making sure I met everybody and making sure I saw how well they can use me in the offense. They’ve done a very great job of showing how much I mean to them and how much they can use me. I think coach Cristobal is doing a great job recruiting over there and they’re going to be building something great. I think Miami’s going to be pretty good in the next few years.”

A March visit played a ‘really big’ role in Schott choosing Miami

Schott made his second trip to Coral Gables on March 21. That trip “was really big” for his decision because he got to see how Miami practices, how he could fit in the Hurricanes’ offense and how he bonded with their players.

Miami’s intense practice impressed Schott, who noticed the program’s high energy. The No. 4 player in Indiana also enjoyed seeing the Hurricanes’ tight ends make big plays.

“I like their history of putting tight ends in the NFL and being able to develop them,” said Schott, the No. 206 overall prospect and No. 10 tight end in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. “They made me feel like a priority, they recruited me well and they showed me that I’m wanted there. I think the culture that coach Cristobal is building there is a really great culture.”

Schott is excited to play for Cristobal

The first person to find out that Schott was choosing the Hurricanes was tight ends coach Cody Woodiel, who quickly added Cristobal to the call. Miami’s head man got “very excited” about his decision and eventually FaceTimed Schott during a staff meeting so he could tell all of the Hurricanes’ coaches he was committing to the ACC school.

Schott is optimistic that Cristobal, who played college football at Miami, will be able to take his alma mater to new heights. The four-star is looking forward to helping Cristobal achieve this goal during his time in Coral Gables.

“When I went down there, I really liked how his coaching style was and his intensity,” Schott said. “At times when he needed to get on his guys, he really got on them and made sure they were getting their job done. He’s not afraid to call it how it is, call guys out and make sure they’re not slacking and taking time off. He wants to make sure everybody’s locked in and getting their assignments done.”

“I think he’s a really real person,” he added. “Every time I met with him, he was very honest and open to a lot of stuff.”
