After an exciting recruitment, Miami Central five-star defensive lineman Armondo Blount is back where he started. Blount has flipped his commitment from Florida State to Miami nearly two months after he flipped away from the Hurricanes.

Blount committed to Florida State on October 22 — decommitting from Miami and reclassifying to the 2024 recruiting class.

Almost two months later, Blount is back with the Hurricanes.

“Development was a major factor in considering my final decision,” Blount told On3. “Seeing three freshmen All-Americans [at Miami] was big for me. The relationships I developed with Coach (Mario) Cristobal, Joe (Salave’a), Jason (Taylor), Coach (Edwin) Pata and Coach Sabb are more like family to me too.

“I’m excited to be developed by two ex-NFL players at Miami. I’m also excited to enroll in a private university where I will have smaller class settings and more opportunities to communicate with my professors.”

Blount is excited about staying close to home where those that have raised him will be able to see him play in the ACC.

The nation’s No. 21 overall prospect and No. 3 defensive lineman  the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Blount is the No. 5 recruit in Florida. And he is ready to be a Hurricane.

“Leaving school early was a hard decision that I’ve been preparing myself for, for a long time,” Blount said. “I want people to know I’m fully dedicated to being the best Cane that I can be on the field and in the classroom. I will be studying engineering and looking forward to seeing the city come out to support us Canes.”

Armondo Blount Scouting Summary

“Versatile, athletic defensive lineman who is capable of creating disruption from any spot on the defensive front. Looks like one of the more physically-gifted defenders early on in the 2025 cycle. Measured in at close to 6-foot-3.5, 250 pounds. Has the size of a future defensive tackle but the athleticism and pass rush skills of a top EDGE prospect. Flashes a plus first-step and quick hands both on Friday nights and in camp settings. Turned in a dominant sophomore campaign at Miami Dillard, showing advanced pass rush skills as a stand-up rusher.

“Lives in the backfield, using his athleticism, strong hands and instincts to make plays behind the line of scrimmage. Also doubles as a top track and field athlete, with a personal best of 55-6 feet in the shot put. Remains to be seen where he’ll end up from a size perspective, adding to some ambiguity around his position long-term.”
