As Dan Radakovich got settled in as Miami athletic director, one of his first orders of business was to get the football team a new facility. Five months after a report said it would cost $100 million, he shared where things stand with construction.

Radakovich met with reporters this week and said the university is still in talks with contractors about building the new complex. It’s unclear when things will get rolling, but he said the university is “getting close” to selecting a contractor to work with its architects.

“Nothing [to update] really from a construction perspective,” Radakovich said. “We’re getting really close. We’ve had conversations yesterday as it related to the contractor. Getting close to selecting the contractor. Our architects are continuing to draw the building and move forward with those opportunities. We have a board meeting later this week where we’ll continue to talk through our fundraising opportunities. I think here, there’s a lot of pieces of it that are out there.

“We want to make sure that this building is the forever home of our football program. We’ve talked about that in the past. And what that’ll do is once that’s pulled together, it’s going to open up opportunities for other parts of our athletic program. … Everything’s moving along at a good pace, and we will continue to update as things present themselves.”

More on Miami’s new football facility

Miami’s new football facility is expected to cost around $100 million to build. The project is expected to expand the Hurricanes’ indoor practice facility to a full 100 yards and the university will be constructing a new building that will have a number of different football activities in it.

Cristobal described the recovery center in the new facility as “space age.”
