Bryant on why he chose Miami

“I ultimately felt like that was the best decision I could make as far as continuing my academic and athletic career,” Bryant said. “Just as far as the plan alone they have for me, I feel as if it’s very detailed and worked around my skill set and versatility.”

Strong relationships with coaching staff + Miami’s plan for Malik Bryant

“I have a unique relationship with coach Cristobal, coach Strong, and coach Steele,” Bryant said. “I feel like I can relate to the 3 coaches in all different aspects of life outside of football, and they plan on playing me at mike / stack backer and also using my versatility to rush off the edge.”

Staying home and putting on for the home state

“It means a lot staying home putting on for my home state just knowing the tradition and legends that came out of the U,” Bryant said. “I know I’ll look up on those same walls one day and see my face on there.”

The sunshine state linebacker joins Miami’s No. 8 class in the 2023 team rankings. He accompanies Francis Mauigoa, Jayden Wayne, Jaden Rashada, and others.

Malik Bryant Scouting Summary

“Athletic, high-energy rusher who wins with power and speed along with positional versatility. Lines up in the slot, as a stand up linebacker and edge rusher,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Transferring back home to Jones High School after starring for IMG Academy as a sophomore and junior. Violent with his hands against the run and does an excellent job stacking and shedding. Gives offensive tackles issues with his quickness and burst. Measured a shade under 6-foot-2 and around 235 pounds with a 6-foot-3 wing-span prior to his junior season. Posted an electronically-timed 4.72 second 40-yard dash, a 4.38 second shuttle and 32” vertical. Lacks the length of most top pass rushers. Could potentially kick to inside linebacker in college depending on scheme and fit.”

Bryant ranks as the No. 57 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 3 linebacker and the No. 14 player in the state of Florida.
