The Miami Hurricanes are expecting big things out of backup quarterback Jacurri Brown eventually, and he’s working to get to that point.

The talent is there, Brown just has to continue to make sure he reaches his full potential. As he prepares to help the program’s offense have a better 2023, Brown is also working on his personal game, as he explained what his thought process was throughout the spring.

“I just wanted to progress for myself,” started the Miami quarterback. “I love this game, and I had to figure out a definition of love and I’ll do anything for it. So in order to play at this school and be great, I had to increase my player, me as a player.”

According to Brown, he did that through working hard, and watching Miami starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, who he learned a lot from.

“Worked hard,” added Brown. “Just going in the film room and talking with Tyler [Van Dyke]. Like, watching how Tyler throws and how he does things, like he puts different touch on balls and things like that.

“For me, I’m just, I had a strong arm so I was really gunning them in, but I had to work on my touch. My feet for sure. Just having a wider base. When I’m with Coach [Shannon] Dawson, tells me that when I have a wider base, I throw the ball pretty good. So I mean, just harping on those things.”

Additionally, Brown is planning on becoming a better leader, among other things over the rest of the summer and into the season.

“I feel like just being a leader,” responded the Miami signal caller. “Just putting the ball in play, like Coach Dawson says. Giving my guys a chance, and just progressing and doing what I can for the team when they need it.”

Moreover, Brown was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2022. As a freshman, he played in eight games for Miami. In those games, he threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns. A dual threat at the quarterback position, he ran for another 223 yards and even caught a pass for nine yards.

Moving forward, it’s evident the talent is there for Jacurri Brown. The Miami Hurricanes are hoping to elevate him moving forward, and when it’s his time to takeover the squad, he’ll be ready.
