Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes three-star defensive lineman Joshua Horton has been committed to North Carolina since Aug. 19. However, Miami is making a strong push for his services.

Hurricanes defensive line coach Joe Salave’a made a trip to see Horton’s game against Rome (Ga.) on Friday night. Miami does not currently have any defensive line commits in its 2023 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-3.5, 275-pound prospect is the No. 1,003 overall prospect and No. 110 defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 98 player in Georgia.

On3 rates Horton higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Even though he is not ranked in the 2023 On300, he is the No. 60 defensive lineman and No. 63 player in Georgia.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Miami has a 71.8% chance to flip Horton’s commitment from the Tar Heels.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

North Carolina’s 2023 recruiting class is currently No. 26 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 5 in the ACC. Meanwhile, Miami’s class is No. 8 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 1 in the ACC.
