Miami missed star receiver Xavier Restrepo Saturday night against Texas A&M as he dealt with a foot injury. In the postgame press conference, Mario Cristobal shared when he could come back — and it’s not good.

Cristobal announced Restrepo will miss at least six weeks as he works his way back from a foot injury, according to The Athletic’s Manny Navarro. A previous report indicated Restrepo would be out “indefinitely,” and Saturday’s press conference was the first time Cristobal put a timeline on his return.

Restrepo was far and away Miami’s leading receiver at the time he went down with the injury. In two games, he had 172 receptions and a touchdown as he built on his connection with quarterback — and roommate — Tyler Van Dyke.

In fact, the Hurricanes offense struggled without him against Texas A&M. They didn’t score a touchdown as they fell to the Aggies 17-9 at Kyle Field. It’ll be next man up for Miami when the Hurricanes take the field next week against Middle Tennessee State before ACC play gets underway.

More on Xavier Restrepo’s foot injury

It’s a bad time for some even worse news for Miami as the Hurricanes headed to College Station for a matchup with Texas A&M this weekend.

The news, first reported by Susan Miller Degnan and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, comes at perhaps the most inopportune time on Miami’s schedule. Restrepo has unquestionably been one of Miami’s best players this season, and he surely would’ve been a key player in the game against the Aggies on Saturday.

Restrepo, a 5-foot-10, 190 pound slot receiver, is Miami’s leading receiver through two games by a wide margin. The junior had 11 catches for 172 yards and a touchdown (the next closest pass catchers had five for 76 or six for 65).
