Five-star shooting guard Jalil Bethea made history today, becoming the highest-ranked recruit to ever commit to the University of Miami.

The 6-foot-4, 170-pound prospect ranks as the No. 6 overall player in the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

“I chose Miami because it is the best fit for me and my career going forward and for my goal which is going to the league,” Bethea said to On3.

In his own words, what type of player is Miami getting in Bethea?

“I would describe my game like a Devin Booker, Tyler Herro and Jordan Poole. I can make shots, dribble, play defense, and I get my teammates involved as well.”

Bethea has a message to ‘Canes fans.

“Y’all won’t be disappointed.”

The senior guard out of Warminster (Pa.) Archbishop Wood ultimately chose the ‘Canes over a final group of Villanova and Kansas. He also received offers from Alabama, Syracuse, and others.

Miami recruiting is on fire right now. Bethea becomes the third player to commit to Coach Larrañaga this month. He joins four-star shooting guard Austin Swartz (No. 38) and four-star small forward Isaiah Johnson-Arigu (No. 106).

Scouting Report

“It is the scoring with Jalil Bethea that you walk away talking about. He scores it in an efficient manner at each level of the floor. He has a good frame, nice length, positional size, and a projectable frame. Bethea is a good athlete and has some quick-twitch and straight-line burst when he is heading toward the rim. His jump shot form is good – albeit his release can be inconsistent at times. He knocks down shots off the catch (off movement) and off the bounce. His handle is at its best when he plays within two or three dribbles. Would like to see him tighten things up beyond that. He can be a good defender, with the length and the athleticism. Would like to see him continue to stay engaged on that end. He plays with a lot of confidence and has a smooth demeanor about him. Shot 40.8% from three and averaged 1.17 point per possession for Team Final during Nike’s EYBL Circuit.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw

Bethea’s NIL Valuation worth over $400K

Jalil Bethea currently holds a $434,000 On3 NIL Valuation, which ranks 10th in high school basketball.

The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college athletes. A proprietary algorithm, the On3 NIL Valuation calculates an athlete’s NIL value using dynamic data points targeting three primary categories: performance, influence and exposure.

About On3 NIL Valuation, Brand Value, Roster Value

While the algorithm includes deal data, it does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals athletes have completed to date, nor does it set an athlete’s NIL valuation for their entire career.

The On3 NIL Valuation accounts for an athlete’s roster value and brand value. Roster value is the value an athlete has by being a member of his or her team at his or her school, which factors into the role of NIL collectives. Brand value factors in an athlete’s personal brand and the value it could bring to regional and national brands outside of the scope of NIL collectives.
