Since decommitting from Michigan in January, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna four-star cornerback Chris Ewald has been pursued by a slew of high-profile programs.

While plenty of heavy-hitters in the SEC have emerged, it’s an in-state school that’s currently trending for his pledge, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Miami got Ewald back to Coral Gables for a visit at the beginning of March. The Hurricanes recently signed multiple of Ewald’s high school teammates, and despite a coaching change in the secondary, the 5-foot-11.5, 165-pounder sees potential with the ACC school.

“We’re still getting to know each other, but from the conversations we’ve had, he’s really cool,” Ewald told On3 of new Miami CBs coach Chevis Jackson. “Then, I also have a great relationship with (head) coach (Mario) Cristobal.”

Ewald told CaneSport after his March visit that he’s planning on coming to a decision soon. Miami recruiting insiders Stephen Wagner and Gary Ferman have each logged On3 RPM picks in favor of the Canes landing the in-state DB.

“He was committed to a UM — Michigan — at one time. I like where another UM sits right now in Miami for Chris Ewald,” On3’s Chad Simmons said earlier this month. “He’s a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball over at Chaminade-Madonna, they had great success last year. (Miami) is in a good position for Ewald. There’s a connection there, not just with his position coach … but the way Cristobal does it I think really played into this race and is why Miami is in a good spot.

“The whole staff recruits these players, it’s not just position coach, he has the entire staff involved and I think that’s what’s held this together. They’re a local program that I was told was not going to let Ewald get away.”

Ewald is the No. 125 overall prospect and No. 12 corner in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 16 player in Florida.

Miami 2025 Class Breakdown

It’s still early in the 2025 cycle, but Miami has just four commits in its current recruiting class, as of Feb. 26. That group of pledges includes three four-stars, however.

Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez headlines the quartet as the No. 155 prospect and the No. 18 LB in the On3 Industry Ranking. He committed to the Hurricanes on Dec. 16.

Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton four-star quarterback Luke Nickel was a riser in the updated 2025 On300 and is now is a top-25 signal-caller in the Industry Rankings. On3 ranks him as the No. 152 recruit, overall.

Boynton Beach (Fla.) Palm Beach Central four-star wide receiver Waden Charles and Quincy (Fla.) Gadsden County three-star offensive tackle Lamar Williams round out the class, which currently ranks No. 15 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
