The Miami Hurricanes are fresh off a deep run in the NCAA Tournament but are still looking to improve for the 2022-2023 season. Head coach Jim Larranaga has put his hand in the transfer portal, landing one of the top available guys on Tuesday afternoon.

Arkansas State forward Norchad Omier announced he would be transferring to Miami via The Field of 68. Playing in 29 and starting in 28 games for the Red Wolves last season, Omier averaged 17.9 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game last season. An immediate impact player will be heading the Hurricanes’ way.

Three other schools were involved in the recruitment, with Omier announcing a top four list before his announcement. Fellow ACC an in-state rival Florida State made the cut, as did Georgetown and Texas Tech. At the end of the day, the Miami native decided to come home.

According to the On3 transfer portal rankings, Omier ranked as the cycle’s No. 35 small forward and was one of the best available. He originally entered the transfer portal at the end of March, taking about just a month to make a decision.

The On3 RPM was in favor of Miami at the time of commitment, with Florida State finishing second. The Hurricanes were at 30.8%, while the Seminoles finished at 26.9%. Now, with his commitment, Omier will add to what should be an improved squad in the ACC for Larranaga.

New Miami Hurricanes forward Norchad Omier pens letter to Arkansas State

Before leaving Arkansas State, Omier penned a letter to everyone involved with the program. He addressed it to the Red Wolves Family, talking about how difficult of a decision it was to enter the transfer portal and potentially leave the team.

“Dear Red Wolves Family,

“After many conversations and prayers with my family, I have decided to test the transfer portal. I haven’t taken this decision lightly and it’s one I have gone back and forth on many times. However, at this point, I’m confident it’s my best interest to explore the options provided.

“I do this with mixed emotions because of the respect I have for you versus what life has for me on the unknown horizon. Thank you to the A-State community, coaches, and my teammates. I’m forever grateful for your support. I’ll cherish the bonds shared on the court and cherised friendships made here in Jonesboro. God Bless!”
